What does a cellar, attic or garage clearance include?
A cellar, attic or garage clearance includes everything in that space that is not part of the building: shelving units, boxes, old furniture, bicycles, tools, suitcases, bottles, paint tins and appliances. The space is swept at the end.
Fixed shelving that is screwed into the wall can be taken down if you ask; say so with your photos.
Why are Antwerpen cellars and attics harder to clear?
Many Antwerpen townhouses from the late 19th and early 20th century have a vaulted brick cellar reached by a steep stone staircase, and an attic reached by a narrow wooden stair or a loft ladder. Everything goes out by hand, piece by piece, often through the whole house.
That is why the access matters as much as the volume. Photograph the stairs too, not only the contents.
What happens to paint, chemicals and old appliances?
Old paint, solvents, oil and garden chemicals are small hazardous waste and are kept apart from the rest. Appliances such as fridges, washing machines and old televisions go to a processor for electrical equipment. Mattresses, wood, metal and cardboard each go into their own stream.
Closed tins and bottles are taken; leaking containers are packed separately. How the contents are sorted is explained in what happens to your belongings.
What does it cost to clear a cellar, attic or garage in Antwerpen?
One full space costs €250 to €600. A small cellar box in an apartment building sits at the bottom of the range; a large garage full of furniture and tools, or a deep attic under a townhouse roof, sits at the top.
When the rest of the home is cleared at the same time, everything is priced as one job; see house clearance cost in Antwerpen.
Do you need a parking ban for a cellar or attic clearance?
Usually yes. Even a small job needs the truck close to the front door, and in most Antwerpen streets that means a temporary parking ban requested from the city 5 working days ahead. For a house with a driveway or a garage on its own land, it is often not needed.
The procedure and the city fee are in the parking ban guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can you clear just a single item from the attic?
No. We clear complete spaces: a full cellar, attic or garage, or a whole home. A single item only comes along as part of such a job.
Do you take building rubble from a renovation?
Small amounts that are already in bags or boxes, yes, as part of the clearance. A renovation skip full of rubble is a job for a container company.
Can you clear the cellar box while I am at work?
Yes, if we have the key or badge and the building manager knows we are coming.
